Count Me In! US Census 2020

I want to start this blog with a slight disclaimer: I realize that this post is a little off the beaten track for what I typically post. While I tend to post what’s current in mom life, style, and beauty, this is a lifestyle blog, and sometimes it is important to me to share things that will have an impact on my LIFE. That’s why I’m saying “Count Me In” and sharing why completing the 2020 US Census is so very important.

Every 10 years, the US asks us to complete a -very- short questionnaire that gives a snapshot of you and/or your family. These 9 easy questions ask your name, age, gender, race/ethnicity, phone number, number of people in your home, etc. Simple questions and the whole thing takes minutes to complete.

This year I did my household Census on the computer, but you can do it over the phone, or send in a paper copy. Use this link: 2020 Census, to take you directly to the site to complete the Census online.

Now, for the important stuff….you may wonder, “Ok, but why does this matter? Why should I give the government all this information?” The short answer is that IT MATTERS!! It matters so much, because with the information collected, states get funding. Michigan, for example, gets about $3,000 per person. This money is used to fund school programs, health care programs, mental health programs, hospitals, services to protect children…the list goes on.

For me personally, I truly believe in education, and children being our future. I want my child to be counted in the census, so that the area we live gets adequate funding for the school that she will be attending. I want ALL the children in our area to be counted because education is so immensely important. I also want to make sure that if a child relies on free or reduced lunch and breakfast provided at school, that the schools can continue to feed children who may otherwise go hungry.

Census results also impact things like highway and road planning, and public transit. If you have any senior family members living in senior housing, counting these members of the community in the Census gives funding to these facilities as well. Medicaid and affordable housing are also funded relatively to the Census results. Our community well being is greatly affected by the funding we so very need!

If you’re worried about any of your personal information being shared- Don’t be! It’s illegal for the data you share on your census to be shared with anyone.

SO, I ask that you please do your part, and -BE COUNTED-!

Thanks so much for reading, loves!
